Pontypridd v London Welsh
Pre-Season Friendly
23/08/2014

Pontypridd 12 – London Welsh 40

This was a real tough day at the office for Ponty, the Welsh scored in the first 5 minutes and by half time were 26 – nil up. London Welsh were bigger, faster and were a step from Ponty.
Ponty's line out didn't function too well, so Ponty were under pressure all the time.
Second half was a little better for Ponty scoring 12 points to 14, but Welsh were still superior in all aspects of play.

The boys did they best, but there is still work to be done with the Cardiff game coming up soon.
We have been spoilt over the last couple of seasons with Ponty wining all the time and was a bit hard to watch Ponty being smashed by London Welsh. But, we must put this into prospective, it was a pre-season friendly and boys know what it takes to win againist Cardiff.

First Game of the Season

Llandovery v Pontypridd

Pre-Season Friendly

16/08/2014

Llandovery - Pontypridd 34:15

Team: 1.Chris Phillips. 2.Huw Dowden (Aled Morris). 3. Lewis Jones. 4.Craig Locke. 5.Jordan Sieniawski. 6.Luke Crocker (Christian Parker). 7. Tom Hetherington (Wayne O'Connor). 8.Jack Davies. 9.Joel Raikes. 10.Lewis K Williams. 11. Matthew Nuthall. 12. Dafydd Lockyer. 13. Harry Millard (Chris Clayton). 14. Alex Webber (Lewis Morgan). 15. Dale Stuckey (Scott Burrows).

Many young unfamiliar faces in the Ponty team, first 15 minutes Ponty played well scored a try by Luke Crocker, but after that things deteriorated. Lots of basic errors comitted, boys tried by it didn't happen for them, on the other hand Llandovery were well organised and committed less errors and made a number breaks.

It was very difficult to watch the match as the team colours and Ref''s shirt were similar in colour, but as the first game of the season the rustiness was evident, but Ponty know what they need to work on. Next week's game against London Welsh will be tough, so Ponty need to raise their game and should have a number of experienced players back.

On the positive side it was good see Huw Dowden and Chris Clayton back for the new season.
